Ewa Kuryluk
b. 1946 Pioneer of ephemeral textile installation and air art, painter, photographer, art historian, novelist and poet. Her work is inspired by autobiography and realism, by shadows, traces and mirrors, by the legends of the Corinthian girl and Veronica’s cloth. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (1970) and the Jagiellonian University. A leading representative of photorealism in Polish painting and a pioneer of site-specific installations. Scholar of the Institute of Humanities, New York University (1983–1985), Princeton University (1984/85), Rockefeller Foundation at the National Humanities Center, North Carolina (1988/89). Winner of, among others the Fund for Free Expression Award in New York (1985) and the Julian Tuwim Award for lifetime achievement (2021).
