Piotr Potworowski
1898–1962 Polish painter, stage designer, teacher. One of the most important representatives of Polish Colourism. Student of Józef Pankiewicz at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, under whose aegis a group of students, among others, Jan Cybis, Hanna Rudzka Cybisowa, Józef Czapski, Artur Nacht and Zygmunt Waliszewski founded the Paris Committee. In 1924 he left for Paris, where he attended Fernand Léger’s workshop. Professor of State High School of Visual Arts in Poznań and Gdańsk and Bath Academy of Art in Corsham. Member of Lon- don Group (since 1954) and Royal West of England Academy (since 1956). Laureate of Silver Medal at the International Art and Technology Exhibition in Paris (1937) and 2nd prize at the XXX Venice Biennale (1960).
Works in collections i.a.: National Museums in Warsaw, Kraków, Poznań, Gdańsk, Szczecin, Wrocław, Museum of Lublin, Tate Gallery St. Ives, Bristol City Art Gallery, Royal West of England Academy in Bristol and private collections in Poland and abroad.
