Marian Bogusz

1920 – 1980 A Polish painter, sculptor, scenographer, draftsman and organizer of artistic life. One of the most important figures of the Polish post-war avant-garde, co-founder of Grupa 55 and founder of the Krzywe Koło Gallery in Warsaw. An initiator and co-organizer of numerous groundbreaking artistic events, including the Plein-airs in Osieki, Biennale of Spatial Forms in Elbląg and Sympozjum Wrocław ’70. Actively engaged in promoting modern art in post-war Poland. A prisoner of the Mauthausen concentration camp during World War II.

Works in collection: National Museum in Warsaw, Wrocław and Poznań, Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw, Museum of Art in Łódź, Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Regional Museum in Pleszew, private collections in Poland, Germany, France and Denmark.

Selected exhibitions: 1st Exhibition of Modern Art, Kraków (1948–1949); exhibitions at Krzywe Koło Gallery, Warsaw (1950s–1960s); Biennale of Spatial Forms, Elbląg (1965); Sympozjum Wrocław ’70; retrospective exhibitions in Pleszew, Warsaw and Wrocław (2009–2021); The Joy of New Constructions, Zachęta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw (2017–2018).
