Ryszard Woźniak
b. 1956 Painter, writer, and educator. He studied at the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (1976–1981), in the studio of Professor Stefan Gierowski. From 1982 to 1992, he was a member of the Gruppa collective, with which he exhibited and participated in artistic actions. He co-edited the magazine “Oj dobrze już”and founded the White Cheese Potential Scholarship. From 1982 to 1988, he taught at the Studio of Painting Technologies and Techniques at the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1986, he received a scholarship in West Berlin. He co- created (with Marek Sobczyk) the polychrome decoration of the Neo-Uniate church in Kostomłoty (1985–1989). He also co-founded the private School of Art in Warsaw (1993–1994), the KRAAA Association, and the Mieczykowa 7 Gallery. From 2003 to 2008, he edited the website artpilot.pl. Between 1992 and 2021, he led a diploma painting studio at the Institute of Visual Arts, University of Zielona Góra. Between 1991 and 2007, Ryszard Woźniak developed so-called “multiple paintings,” often exhibited as painterly installations. After 2000, he created series such as Authorities, Presidential Candidate, and Equality Parade, and since 2008 has returned to the autonomous painting format. Throughout his career, his painting practice has been accompanied by performative actions, which he describes as “pseudo-performances”.
