Ryszard Grzyb
b. 1956 Painter, graphic artist, and poet. He studied at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Wrocław (1976–1979), under Professor Zbigniew Karpiński, and at the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (1979–1981), where he graduated from the studio of Professor Rajmund Ziemski. From 1982 to 1992, he was a member of the art collective Gruppa, with which he exhibited and took part in numerous artistic actions. He co-founded and published the magazine Oj dobrze już. In parallel with painting, he has practiced poetry since his student years in Wrocław. Alongside his painting, he has been writing poetry since his student years in Wrocław. His poems have been published in“Nowy Wyraz” (1980, 1981),“Miesięcznik Literacki”(1981),“Oj dobrze już, the anthology Young Poets of a New Poland”(London, 1993), “Sztuka Najnowsza. Co słychać”(1989), and“Tytuł roboczy” (2004). He is the author of two poetry collections: “Zdania napowietrzne”(2005) and “Ja chrząszcz”(2020). In 2004, he launched a multimedia project titled Zdania napowietrzne (Aerial Sentences), which places short poetic phrases in non- artistic contexts—on billboards, pencils, mugs, neon signs, and informational plaques. Recipient of the Jan Cybis Award (2010). Ryszard Grzyb’s artistic practice is characterized by expressive colorism, dynamic composition, and a rich use of symbols and metaphors. His paintings often depict fantastical figures and animals, creating surreal, energetic worlds.
