Alfred Lenica
1899 – 1977 A Polish painter, one of the pioneers of post-war abstraction in Poland, associated with surrealism, tachisme and informel painting. Co-founder of the avant-garde group 4F+R (Form, Paint, Texture, Fantasy + Realism) and member of Grupa Krakowska. Active participant of the post-war neo-avant-garde movement and exhibitions at Krzywe Koło Gallery in Warsaw. His work evolved from cubist and surrealist figuration toward abstract, highly expressive compositions developed through experimental techniques including dripping, decalcomania, collage and layered paint structures. Winner of the Grand Prix at the 1st Festival of Contemporary Polish Painting in Szczecin (1962). Invited by the United Nations to create the mural Three Elements (Water, Fire and Love) at the UN headquarters in Geneva (1959–1960).
Works in collection i.a.: National Museum in Warsaw, Kraków, Poznań, Wrocław and Szczecin, Museum of Art in Łódź, as well as numerous private collections in Poland and abroad.
