Drive my car
October 6 - November 10, 2023

Our understanding of reality results from inheriting fragments of emotionality and sentimentality from previous generations. It is our close ones who pass on their experiences, sentiments, and feelings, which shape our comprehension of history. Cultural empathy is an area of my interest. A recurring theme in my recent works is the trace of automobilism.

The automotive revolution at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries transformed the world. Quickly becoming an icon, it drove the previous century forward, expanding its influence and leading to inevitable changes due to this monoculture. Cars became significant indicators of taste and cultural standing. What I present remains beautiful and alluring, even though reality no longer aligns with these ideals.

The installation titled Drive my car refers to fleeting memories, moments of detachment from reality, and a sense of weightlessness that we often seek in everyday life. The inspiration for this series came from observing the recurring motif of a flash of light while driving, which blinds and obscures the direction of the road. A journey follows its own rules, bringing surprises and creating the possibility of the unexpected.
