Karolina Bielawska

A Mirage

November 29 - December 23, 2016

A mirage, which consists in a seeming appearance of many changing images in the air, can be seen mainly in the desert (or sea). This subtle illusion changes the perception of reality. Disturbed perception facilitates the functioning in a fictional world.

The painting installation “A Mirage” was made of polyurethane foam. This cheap construction material, which seems to contrast with the building’s interior, has gained a new countenance thanks to the acquired aesthetic values. The organicity and gentle structure of the entire composition differs from the sharp elements of Spectra’ architecture and thus appeases the space and calms down its visitors. The work, on the one hand, brings primary forms of existence into mind, and on the other hand, it resembles a constellation or a galaxy. It is a game of appearances which depends on the recipient’s perception.

The light blue line visible in the piece refers to the unlimited horizon, the wish to go beyond one’s microcosm.
