Jakub Gliński

Who is Leaving – You or Me?

April 4 - April 21, 2016

The character of the work as part of the 29th edition of SOON_ is very intimate. Jakub Gliński follows his intuition when translating his experiences, memories, traces of things, shapes around him into the language of artistic expression. He experiments and explores. The effect of going deep inside himself is a painting which could be used for learning about the artist. The elements emerging from the canvas are, however, so individual, instinctive, personal that it is difficult to explain them by giving them specific meanings. Gliński seeks – he builds a painting to reject most of what he has painted by covering or concealing it with another layer of paint. The artist confronts viewers with a monumental work asking directly “Who Is Leaving – You or Me?”. Do viewers, by “touching” an intensive internal action, pass through Gliński’s filter and enter into a dialogue with him? Have they remained themselves? Or does the apparent chaos, imperfection enforce the question who should stay here? Does the observer wish to leave the space of the project or would he or she want that for the artist?

Jakub Gliński – born in 1985. A painter, audiovisual artist, experimental musician, performer. In his works, he uses the “trash and error” aesthetics.
