Marta Węglińska

Melted into greenery

June 29 - July 27, 2018

Blood is almost chlorophyll – the chemical structure of haemoglobin is very similar to chlorophyll. What fills in a human being is so close to the essence of nature. This topic has accompanied me for a few years, manifesting itself in various forms depending on a given project. Two fabrics made with the Batik* technique are the result of an inspiration with selected elements of the Javanese culture, where beliefs, tradition, literature often combine the human order with nature.

Ivy can clad almost anything. An invasive plant with exceptional adaptation capabilities. It can grow in humid and shaded forests but also in dry and sunny places. Common ivy is a poisonous plant.

*Batik – a painting technique consisting in applying wax and then washing a fabric in a dye which dyes only those places which have not been covered with a layer of wax.

Marta Węglińska - born in 1990; a holder of a Master’s degree in Intermedia (2016) and a Bachelor’s degree awarded at the Faculty of Painting (2014), the University of the Arts Poznan.
