Arranged stacks of stones are an attempt to understand the principles of entropy. The process of creating such an image is a struggle between a theoretically infinite number of possible combinations and an awareness of the laws of physics. Each image serves as a wrapping that encloses the stack of stones, a container that prevents them from falling apart.
The artist's role here is to wishfully recreate alternative scenarios of the given arrangement of bodies, rather than creating something entirely new. Considering friction, texture, and gravity, each of the images reminds us of the collision of ideas with matter, the inevitable clash of desires with reality.
The second part of the installation is a video depicting chaos in a closed system. A stack of dirty stones is treated with a stream of water that washes them at the point of direct contact. Despite the energy invested, the end result is no better than the original. The water filling the container becomes murky. The effect of transitioning between expectation and realization is reinforced by overlaying frames before and after the process.
The background of the installation consists of an abstract painting. The colors used evoke both synthetic and organic associations. The texture and expressive undertones provide a visual contrast to the black-and-white drawings.
Stacks of stones spread in one space, together with the abstract painting and video, create a stone landscape – an environment in which the viewer moves along a single axis.
