JAGODA DOBECKA
Spider and Frog
February 4 - March 4, 2022

In my artistic work, I speak about a friendship falling into the category of nostalgia for innocence. From the angle of adulthood, I refer to memories and the way of experiencing the childhood world. I direct my attention towards the lack of prejudices against reality, towards the readiness to embrace it.

By means of the fairy tale about a Spider and a Frog, I tell a story of a relationship between two predatory animals, which often compete with each other in their common habitat. My narrative tells about the rare instances where they establish cooperation and live in symbiosis. In such a relationship, their functioning is completely different, the atavistic hostility is replaced with close coexistence.

In their visual aspect, the presented objects appear to be artifacts from the archaeological museum of friendship, both the lost one, which exists in the sphere of fantasies or memories, and the potential one, which might happen between unexpected subjects.
