Michał Szuszkiewicz
Black Paintings
5 - 30.08.2013
For Michał Szuszkiewicz, although he frequently has worked in other media (video-art, photography), painting is still an important artistic challenge. "I think painting is a force, but not everyone has the same opinion today. It survived all the new emerging visual techniques and still has some importance in describing reality. Mainly because it is a simple technique, but also the only one that can tell us something not only about the depicted reality, but most of all about the author. You can not hide anything, even if you really wanted to."
Black Paintings became a turning point in artist`s painting research, where an important role is the issue of visibility and representation in the image and the experience of black in many areas of reception. They require specific, sharpened kind of perception, have a special sensitivity to light. Hence, you need an outstanding skills, if you want to deal with the difficult experience of black, often directly avoided by painters. Black Paintings by Michał Szuszkiewicz, are  individual components of independent cycles, becoming a significant  accent of any of them.
