A net, as an emblematic figure of modernism, materialises in Maciej Nowacki’s project in literal terms. Its structure is a metaphor of organising human life, designing the surroundings, creating information networks. For the artist, a net is the quintessence of the possibility to order an area in a rational manner, and hence the equivalent of the positivist and rational ideas that assume cognisability of the whole world, its subjugation by the man and the primacy of the mind as an instrument of cognition. At the same time, by setting up the net between the panel and the viewer, the artist points to a seeming barrier, a boundary between the peculiarity of the place and art itself.
