Edition 4

Four elements

The Tadeusz Brzozowski State High School of Fine Arts in Krosno

The project aimed to investigate relationships present in nature, and the titular elements – air, water, fire, earth – through the cognitive lens of young fine artists. The study of nature was expressed through fine arts and film. An intra-school scenario competition was organised. 8 teams participated in the competition. The attending teacher, Paweł Leszega, was responsible for the selection. He chose 4 projects, which contained the most interesting ideas, to be implemented.

The attending teacher, Paweł Leszega, said the following about the awarded project and the role of the “Wena” Grant Programme:

Students of all genders attended a lecture on conceptual, performance and site-specific art. The artists prepared short films/diaporamas on the theme of the four elements. The project was inspired by the ideas of Prof. Jerzy Ludwiński, author of the essays “Epoka błękitu” (The Blue Era), the works of Cezary Bodzianowski, as well as the photograms of Mikołaj Smoczyński. The following equipment was purchased as part of the project: a drone, a digital camera, a sports camera, a graphics tablet, a laptop, memory cards, a manual gimbal, a printer, a leaf blower, and a projection screen.

  • The “Air” animation was prepared by Milena Kania and Ronja Harasim – 4th grade
  • The “Earth” animation was prepared by Magda Prokop and Kamil Lewtak – 4th grade
  • The “Water” animation was prepared by Julia Durał and Aleksandra Lekostaj – 3rd grade
  • The “Fire” animation was prepared by Maria Rymar (audio) and Bartosz Mularski (animations) – 1st grade

The project’s uniqueness stems from its innovative approach to the four elements. The project aims to prioritise the students’ involvement and use their creative potential as creators. In the world after the pandemic isolation, a project that emphasises teamwork and cooperative creation proved highly integrative, and the activities thereunder went beyond the school curriculum. A gala to present the works created in the project took place on 17 April 2023 at the Regional Centre for Borderland Cultures in Krosno: Report from the Gala
