Inspiration

The metaphor of a 1:1 scale map was used by Lewis Carroll, the writer known for his adventures of 'Alice in Wonderland', in his book 'The Adventures of Sylvia and Bruno'. A 1:1 scale map is one on which every centimetre of it corresponds to a centimetre of territory. A map can be trodden, created on the surface of water, shouted, registered, woven or carved. Using the metaphor of a 1:1 scale map, we wanted to explore the world and the immediate environment of the art school community.

The Partners

The partners of the 6th edition of the "Wena" Grant Programme Competition are:

  • The Centre for Art Education in Warsaw
  • Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw
  • The Society of Friends of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw

The Competition Jury assessed the projects submitted to the Competition in terms of their innovativeness, artistic and educational value and selected 10 finalists.

The winning projects explore the world and the pupils' immediate surroundings. Working in teams, the young artists will use various forms of artistic expression such as film, performance and sculpture to improve their creative techniques beyond the school curriculum. Some projects will result in original publications, while others will be a continuation of projects already carried out as part of the 'Wena' Grant Programme competitions - demonstrating their sustainability and scalability. The common denominator of all these activities will be an artistic statement of the author's one-to-one scale maps.
