Second Edition

In the second edition of the "Wena" Grant Program competition, the High School of Fine Arts in Kościelec was awarded a grant for its submitted educational and artistic project entitled "Art seeks closeness". The starting point for the project was the issue of symbiosis of man and nature, which teaches us about closeness and living in harmony. The authors of the project noticed a problem of disharmony of the ecosystem in the nearest surroundings - too small a number of birds in parks. They decided to help our winged friends through art and contribute in some way to eliminating the existing problem.

The project aims to build visually attractive nesting boxes, adapted to the needs of selected birds. Original and at the same time functional spatial forms, by way of interpretation of selected artists' works, will refer to ancient or modern art traditions. One of the activities planned to stimulate the creativity of young people was a sightseeing trip to Zakopane. Getting to know local folklore, people, and observation of nature were to become an inspiration for artistic activities. However, the pandemic did not allow the implementation of this assumption. It was postponed. Design activities, preparations, conceptual sketches, technical drawings are carried out. A meeting of nature lovers took place, broadening students' knowledge of ornithology.

Small works of art will be ultimately mounted on the premises of the park and palace complex of the Kreutz family in Kościelec, in order to increase the bird population and raise the aesthetic value of the local space. The whole project will be complemented by project charts and a film documenting the course of the task, which the participants will present in the form of an exhibition.

On June 1, 2021, around the picturesquely situated State High School of Fine Arts in Kościelec unusual birdhouses appeared installed on trees in the historic park.

The school community and participants officially hung their designer nesting boxes, created by the students and displayed on the trees. The shape and paintings of the nesting boxes were consulted with expert ornithologists. Congratulations to young artists and their mentors.

The area around the palace, where the high school of fine arts is located, became more „artistic”. Let's hope that birds will also appreciate these aesthetic and artistic visions of the nesting boxes.
