WENA PROGRAMME

2021/12/15

"Mirrors of the Kielce Visual Arts School"- art education with an infectious dose of social sensitivity.

The students prepared a performance titled „Mirrors", inspired by the works of George Orwell and Witkacy. The premiere took place on December 9, 2021 at the school's headquarters in Kielce. The performance was created as part of the „Mirrors of the Kielce Visual Art School" project funded by the Starak Family Foundation. The script of the show touches on vivid and topical issues in the public and social debate and confronts the audience with the world of people affected by hearing impairments.

The audience participated in the performance in a symbolic way. Dressed in special masks, at the end of the performance, they were "contaminated" with art by being marked with colored paint by one of the main characters of the show. The show was staged by the "Alter Ego" Amateur Theater - artists and students of the State Music School Complex in Kielce working in cooperation.

The realization of the project was preceded by a trip to Warsaw for the students to experience, among other things, the Invisible Exhibition, participating in many hours of workshops improving skills in script development, stage design, music composition, dance, and acting. The students had a chance to broaden their knowledge on hearing dysfunction by participating in a months-long sign language course.

The premiere of the show was accompanied by a post-competition exhibition entitled "The Noise of Silence". The presented photographs complemented and reinforced with their moving message the content and message of the performance. The added value of the project is the lesson of sensitivity towards the individual, especially burdened with hearing dysfunction.

We had the great pleasure to participate in the premiere, which made a great impression on the audience, shocked the audience with the present-day message, and provoked deep social reflection. A beautiful and moving project! Congratulations and thank you to all participants from Kielce!
