We invite you to the exhibition “Abstraction | The Alliance of Divisions,” where we present various faces of abstraction as interpreted by the classics of Polish post-war art. These are artists who, drawing on avant-garde traditions, developed a unique approach to form, color, and space, becoming pioneers of modern artistic movements.

The abstraction of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s constitutes one of the main areas of the Starak Collection, reflecting the owners' fascination with the work of the creators who shaped the artistic life of that era. Among them were: Henryk Stażewski, a devoted researcher of synthesis, rigor, and clarity in geometric abstraction throughout his artistic career; Jonasz Stern, whose work, deeply existential in nature, constructs a mysterious, multi-layered world of symbols and metaphors; Stefan Gierowski, who, in his large-format paintings derived from visual experience, explored space and movement; Wojciech Fangor, known for his mesmerizing, color-driven compositions; Kajetan Sosnowski, an experimenter who sought intellectual inspiration in scientific inquiries; Ryszard Winiarski, who transitioned from conceptual "Areas" to participatory games and the so-called "floating geometry." Equally significant for the exhibition are the cylindrical form experiments of Zofia Artymowska, the divisions and lines in Wanda Gołkowska’s arrangements, and the compositions of Dorota Grynczel.

The exhibition embraces diverse forms of abstraction – from geometric precision to color dynamics and experiments with space and matter. Divisions, both formal and conceptual, shape relationships between form, space, and color—fundamental elements of abstract expression. On a symbolic level, they evoke notions of coherence, harmony, and tension, making the exhibition both an aesthetic experience and a reflection on the need for respite from chaos.

Each artwork is a unique interpretation of reality, rooted in the intellectual explorations, emotions, and intuition of the artists. This exhibition is an extraordinary opportunity to delve into the most outstanding examples of Polish abstraction, showcasing intricate relationships between artistic approaches and techniques that together form a covenant within the broad spectrum of abstraction.
